Korean spelling follows the official 국립국어원 (National Institute of Korean Language) transliteration rules, cross-checked against how each name is actually written in Korean news and reference sources — Vietnamese has three-way readings for a few syllables (like Dũng), so this tool picks whichever spelling is most widely used, not just the mechanically "correct" one.

1. Why the same Vietnamese name can look different in Korean

Korean has no exact match for several Vietnamese sounds — the vowel ư, the initial d, and tones don't exist in Hangul. The official transliteration rules build a spelling from the letters, but real-world usage (news articles, Wikipedia, official announcements) sometimes settles on a different, more common spelling. For example, Dũng is written 즈응 by the letter-by-letter rule, but Vietnam's former Prime Minister Nguyễn Tấn Dũng is universally written 응우옌떤중 in Korean media — so this tool uses 중.
